I’ve been a big fan
of her and her husband Jerry ever since.

In the past couple of weeks, I’ve received quite a few
emails regarding Jerry’s transition from life as we
know it.

How could this have happened???

Here are excerpts from one of the emails I received.

“I was shocked to hear…that Jerry Hicks
died on 18th Nov. Seems he was having
chemotherapy for leukaemia.

“People are now asking whether this is the
death of Abraham-Hicks and questioning
whether they were a scam…

“They can’t understand how Jerry got cancer
in the first place if everything Esther
teaches is true. If you think about a
positive healthy life then you should never
attract something like cancer into your
vibration according to Esther.

“Secondly her fans are upset that they went
straight to chemotherapy and didn’t use
this opportunity to stand up to the power
of their teachings and actually put it to
the test.

“What do you think? I’m definitely v. shaken
by it and am clinging on to hope & faith here.”

 — Debbie

So, let’s talk about this.

As with anyone who gets sick and makes the transition
from living in the body with with we are familiar and
appears to “die,” the rest of us are left to fill in
the unknowable with our own beliefs.

We have no way of knowing what was going on in someone
else’s mind. We can’t know all the things that really
influenced the decisions they made, what really
“caused” the body to respond the way it did, or what
would have happened if different decisions had been
made.

We can’t prove what happens to someone after they
“die,” where we came from before “birth,” what really
lies beyond the physical world we live in.

And even in the physical world, we each have an
individual perspective about what’s really going on,
because of the limitations of what can be proven.

That leaves us each with our own life experience,
almost 100% beyond anyone else’s ability to fully
comprehend.

Hmmm.

So, why did Jerry get cancer? Why didn’t he
immediately fully recover and sustain life in that
body? After all, in Esther’s words, translating the
wisdom that he and Esther shared with the world for so
many years,

“We’re going to make a very bold statement:
any disease could be healed in a matter of
days, any disease, if distraction from it
could occur and a different vibration
dominate-and the healing time is about how
much mix-up there is in all of that.”

If Jerry couldn’t do it, who could?

This question, of course, implies that he wanted to.
How can we even know that?

Maybe there’s more to the story.

We could get all bent out of shape about how the idea
that Jerry got sick, and then passed on, means that
what he and Esther believed and taught was wrong, or
impossible to apply.

But where is the benefit in that conclusion? To me,
it’s depressing and stressful–and certainly counter to
my own experience.

Stress is counterproductive to health. The entire
point of what he and Esther shared was to let go of
stressful beliefs.

Here’s the thing. Those “why” questions–why’d he get
sick and not get well–are only answerable with
unprovable beliefs.

BELIEFS. Not facts.

Because I’m in favor of the fully alive, vibrant
health of the rest of us, and I believe that stress is
behind all the pain, sickness, and suffering that are
the opposite of fully alive, vibrant health, I’m a fan
of finding the least stressful, most comforting
possible beliefs to explain anything.

So, let’s consider what beliefs could explain Jerry’s
adventure, given that we can’t possibly know.

Here’s a guy who is my role model for being the most
fully alive, fun loving, happy, intensely curious
adventurer who wasn’t out to prove anything to anybody,
didn’t care what anybody thought of him, and certainly
didn’t want any followers.

For years, he has pushed to know more about what
happens in the great beyond. For years, he has talked
about the belief that there is no death, that it’s all
an adventure, that there’s much more to life than this
one, and that when one has milked this life for all
it’s worth, every one of us chooses to leave it.

Sounds like that’s exactly what he did.

To me, that’s comforting.

How about these beliefs:

– Illness is not a sign of failure. It’s a sign that
one is rapidly expanding and stretching, and there’s
resistance in the system that’s not allowing the full
expansion.

– There is no such thing as death. There is only a
withdrawing of focus and energy from the physical
realm. Life is eternal.

– We are each magnificent beings who are constantly
expanding, and our physical bodies are the result of
focused energy by the larger, non-physical parts of
ourselves.

– When we are ready to move on to another level of
life experience (“die”) we choose an exit route. For
some it’s an “accident.” For some, it’s an illness. For
some, it’s a quiet night of sleep from which one
doesn’t awaken.

– What happens in our bodies isn’t a conscious choice
by the limited part of us that we identify by our names
and personalities. There’s something much bigger going
on in the world of our true expansion. We can tell what
direction we’re headed by how we feel.

I had no direct exposure to Jerry while he was ill. I
have no idea what that experience was like for him, or
if he suffered.

So, I can choose to fill in that gap of knowledge by
imagining he suffered terribly, tried hard to cure his
disease and failed.

Or, I can choose to fill in that gap of knowledge by
imagining he laughed merrily all the way to the end,
filled with love and excitement about what would come
next.

I can choose to be sad for the loss of him.

Or, I can choose to raise myself and be exhilarated by
the wonderful example of a free and happy being he was
in the flesh, and the free and happy being he still is.

You, too, get to choose.

What do you choose to believe about your own state of
health? What about the passing of others you care
about?

If statistics are any indication, ten out of ten of us
will pass on sooner or later. As far as I know, every
great teacher, master, enlightened person, and every
other person in history has gone on. Does that mean
they all failed? That what they taught was bogus? That
they are gone from us forever?

Or that their lives were meaningful contributions
whose value continues; that they are all still part of
the universal consciousness that every one of us can
access?

You decide what to believe, and therefore, you create
your experience of life.

Me, I’m choosing to aim for joy and freedom. Thanks,
Jerry!

With great love,

Dr. Alexandra Gayek

P.S.
