If you’ve been with me for a while, you know that
\nEsther Hicks was instrumental in the miraculous healing
\nI experienced about six years ago. I’ve been a big fan
\nof her and her husband Jerry ever since.<\/p>\n
In the past couple of weeks, I’ve received quite a few
\nemails regarding Jerry’s transition from life as we
\nknow it. <\/p>\n
How could this have happened???<\/p>\n
Here are excerpts from one of the emails I received.<\/p>\n
“I was shocked to hear…that Jerry Hicks
\n died on 18th Nov. Seems he was having
\n chemotherapy for leukaemia. <\/p>\n
“People are now asking whether this is the
\n death of Abraham-Hicks and questioning
\n whether they were a scam… <\/p>\n
“They can’t understand how Jerry got cancer
\n in the first place if everything Esther
\n teaches is true. If you think about a
\n positive healthy life then you should never
\n attract something like cancer into your
\n vibration according to Esther. <\/p>\n
“Secondly her fans are upset that they went
\n straight to chemotherapy and didn’t use
\n this opportunity to stand up to the power
\n of their teachings and actually put it to
\n the test. <\/p>\n
“What do you think? I’m definitely v. shaken
\n by it and am clinging on to hope & faith here.”<\/p>\n

So, let’s talk about this.<\/p>\n
As with anyone who gets sick and makes the transition
\nfrom living in the body with with we are familiar and
\nappears to “die,” the rest of us are left to fill in
\nthe unknowable with our own beliefs.<\/p>\n
We have no way of knowing what was going on in someone
\nelse’s mind. We can’t know all the things that really
\ninfluenced the decisions they made, what really
\n“caused” the body to respond the way it did, or what
\nwould have happened if different decisions had been
\nmade.<\/p>\n
We can’t prove what happens to someone after they
\n“die,” where we came from before “birth,” what really
\nlies beyond the physical world we live in. <\/p>\n
And even in the physical world, we each have an
\nindividual perspective about what’s really going on,
\nbecause of the limitations of what can be proven.<\/p>\n
That leaves us each with our own life experience,
\nalmost 100% beyond anyone else’s ability to fully
\ncomprehend.<\/p>\n
Hmmm.<\/p>\n
So, why did Jerry get cancer? Why didn’t he
\nimmediately fully recover and sustain life in that
\nbody? After all, in Esther’s words, translating the
\nwisdom that he and Esther shared with the world for so
\nmany years, <\/p>\n
“We’re going to make a very bold statement:
\n any disease could be healed in a matter of
\n days, any disease, if distraction from it
\n could occur and a different vibration
\n dominate-and the healing time is about how
\n much mix-up there is in all of that.”<\/p>\n
If Jerry couldn’t do it, who could? <\/p>\n
This question, of course, implies that he wanted to.
\nHow can we even know that?<\/p>\n
Maybe there’s more to the story.<\/p>\n
We could get all bent out of shape about how the idea
\nthat Jerry got sick, and then passed on, means that
\nwhat he and Esther believed and taught was wrong, or
\nimpossible to apply.<\/p>\n
But where is the benefit in that conclusion? To me,
\nit’s depressing and stressful–and certainly counter to
\nmy own experience. <\/p>\n
Stress is counterproductive to health. The entire
\npoint of what he and Esther shared was to let go of
\nstressful beliefs.<\/p>\n
Here’s the thing. Those “why” questions–why’d he get
\nsick and not get well–are only answerable with
\nunprovable beliefs. <\/p>\n
BELIEFS. Not facts.<\/p>\n
Because I’m in favor of the fully alive, vibrant
\nhealth of the rest of us, and I believe that stress is
\nbehind all the pain, sickness, and suffering that are
\nthe opposite of fully alive, vibrant health, I’m a fan
\nof finding the least stressful, most comforting
\npossible beliefs to explain anything.<\/p>\n
So, let’s consider what beliefs could explain Jerry’s
\nadventure, given that we can’t possibly know.<\/p>\n
Here’s a guy who is my role model for being the most
\nfully alive, fun loving, happy, intensely curious
\nadventurer who wasn’t out to prove anything to anybody,
\ndidn’t care what anybody thought of him, and certainly
\ndidn’t want any followers. <\/p>\n
For years, he has pushed to know more about what
\nhappens in the great beyond. For years, he has talked
\nabout the belief that there is no death, that it’s all
\nan adventure, that there’s much more to life than this
\none, and that when one has milked this life for all
\nit’s worth, every one of us chooses to leave it. <\/p>\n
Sounds like that’s exactly what he did.<\/p>\n
To me, that’s comforting.<\/p>\n
How about these beliefs:<\/p>\n
– Illness is not a sign of failure. It’s a sign that
\none is rapidly expanding and stretching, and there’s
\nresistance in the system that’s not allowing the full
\nexpansion. <\/p>\n
– There is no such thing as death. There is only a
\nwithdrawing of focus and energy from the physical
\nrealm. Life is eternal.<\/p>\n
– We are each magnificent beings who are constantly
\nexpanding, and our physical bodies are the result of
\nfocused energy by the larger, non-physical parts of
\nourselves.<\/p>\n
– When we are ready to move on to another level of
\nlife experience (“die”) we choose an exit route. For
\nsome it’s an “accident.” For some, it’s an illness. For
\nsome, it’s a quiet night of sleep from which one
\ndoesn’t awaken.<\/p>\n
– What happens in our bodies isn’t a conscious choice
\nby the limited part of us that we identify by our names
\nand personalities. There’s something much bigger going
\non in the world of our true expansion. We can tell what
\ndirection we’re headed by how we feel.<\/p>\n
I had no direct exposure to Jerry while he was ill. I
\nhave no idea what that experience was like for him, or
\nif he suffered.<\/p>\n
So, I can choose to fill in that gap of knowledge by
\nimagining he suffered terribly, tried hard to cure his
\ndisease and failed.<\/p>\n
Or, I can choose to fill in that gap of knowledge by
\nimagining he laughed merrily all the way to the end,
\nfilled with love and excitement about what would come
\nnext. <\/p>\n
I can choose to be sad for the loss of him.<\/p>\n
Or, I can choose to raise myself and be exhilarated by
\nthe wonderful example of a free and happy being he was
\nin the flesh, and the free and happy being he still is.<\/p>\n
You, too, get to choose.<\/p>\n
What do you choose to believe about your own state of
\nhealth? What about the passing of others you care
\nabout?<\/p>\n
If statistics are any indication, ten out of ten of us
\nwill pass on sooner or later. As far as I know, every
\ngreat teacher, master, enlightened person, and every
\nother person in history has gone on. Does that mean
\nthey all failed? That what they taught was bogus? That
\nthey are gone from us forever? <\/p>\n
Or that their lives were meaningful contributions
\nwhose value continues; that they are all still part of
\nthe universal consciousness that every one of us can
\naccess?<\/p>\n
You decide what to believe, and therefore, you create
\nyour experience of life.<\/p>\n
Me, I’m choosing to aim for joy and freedom. Thanks,
