{"id":983,"date":"2014-04-26T20:23:37","date_gmt":"2014-04-26T15:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/happyhealthsystem.com\/blog\/?p=983"},"modified":"2014-04-27T04:09:38","modified_gmt":"2014-04-26T23:09:38","slug":"your-sizer-shape-and-how-to-change-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/happyhealthsystem.com\/blog\/archives\/983","title":{"rendered":"Your Size, Shape, and How to Change It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you look in the mirror, who do you see looking<br \/>\nback at you?<\/p>\n<p>Do you identify with that image, thinking &#8220;this is me?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Do you think of that body you see as something or<br \/>\nsomeone foreign to you, separate from you, a body you<br \/>\ninhabit, but isn&#8217;t who you are at all?<\/p>\n<p>Do you think of yourself as being more than what you<br \/>\nsee?<\/p>\n<p>Do you feel loving, caring, friendly toward the one you<br \/>\nsee?<\/p>\n<p>Does that image you see represent:<\/p>\n<p> Someone you love?<\/p>\n<p> Someone you hate? <\/p>\n<p> Someone you&#8217;re proud of being?<\/p>\n<p> Someone who never measures up, isn&#8217;t good enough,<br \/>\n     is a big disappointment?<\/p>\n<p> Something or someone beautiful and pleasing?<\/p>\n<p> Something or someone you&#8217;re ashamed of, you find<br \/>\n     disgusting, or who reminds you of painful<br \/>\n     experiences or traumatic events?<\/p>\n<p> A body that gives you the delicious opportunity to<br \/>\n     enjoy all the wonders of the physical world?<\/p>\n<p> Something you&#8217;re stuck with and resent, that<br \/>\n     prevents you from doing what you want, or<br \/>\n     having the life you desire? <\/p>\n<p> Something that easily changes and responds to your<br \/>\n     desires and efforts?<\/p>\n<p> Something you can&#8217;t control, seems out of control,<br \/>\n     or betrays and fails you?<\/p>\n<p>Your responses to these questions MATTER to the<br \/>\ncondition of your body, whether you are considering how<br \/>\nfat or skinny you are, what kind of shape you&#8217;re in,<br \/>\nthe presence or possibility of disease, how easily<br \/>\nyou&#8217;ll heal from injury or illness.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that they matter more than any action you<br \/>\nmay take.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, loving, being proud of, seeing beauty in,<br \/>\nenjoying, finding delight in, feeling the<br \/>\nresponsiveness of your body and the way it represents<br \/>\nyou, are what will best support your well being.<\/p>\n<p>For many people, those feelings are the opposite of how<br \/>\nthey feel about themselves and their bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Probably the most common condition in which women in<br \/>\nparticular experience frustration, shame, disgust,<br \/>\nself-rejection, and desperation is being overweight.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the most common response to this condition is<br \/>\nrestrictive dieting and punishing exercise&#8211;which<br \/>\nrarely yields more than temporary change, and more<br \/>\ncommonly only reinforces all the painful feelings.<\/p>\n<p>What actually WORKS for long term results&#8211;whether<br \/>\nreducing size, re-shaping your body, or healing from<br \/>\nillness or injury&#8211;is completely counterintuitive, and<br \/>\nthe opposite of what most of us have been trained to<br \/>\nbelieve.<\/p>\n<p>What works is to deal FIRST with all those negative<br \/>\nbeliefs about yourself, the stories you&#8217;ve been<br \/>\npracticing.
